These 2026 planners can help make everyday life feel calmer. Table of Contents: The start of a new year always makes me want to slow things down and focus on being the best version of myself. I want a calmer, more organized life that feels intentional instead of chaotic. One of the simplest ways I do that is by choosing a physical planner that feels good to use. Color matters. Layout matters. And when a planner fits your lifestyle and aesthetic, you’re more likely to stick with it. I pulled together a collection of coastal-inspired planners in soft blues, aquas, greens, and classic patterns like gingham, hydrangea flowers, watercolor backgrounds, and even one that reminds me of sea glass. They feel calm, inviting, and inspiring to use. Coastal-Inspired Planners for a Calm, Organized 2026 These planners are practical, but they also feel peaceful. They’re the kind you want to open every morning. Related: Favorite Coastal Home Decor and Fashion Finds You Don’t Want to Miss How to Choose the Right Planner for You If you’re deciding between styles, here are a few things to consider: The best planner is the one you’ll actually use consistently, not necessarily the one with the most features. The Benefits of Using a Physical Planner in a Digital World So much of daily life now happens on screens. Our phones manage our schedules, remind us of appointments, and constantly compete for our attention. A physical planner creates a small but meaningful shift away from that digital noise. Writing things down by hand naturally slows you down. It encourages you to be more intentional about how you plan your days, weeks, and months. A physical planner becomes a quiet place to think, reflect, and organize without interruptions. For me, coastal living is not just about living near the water. It’s about creating a calm, organized life that supports a slower lifestyle and more thoughtful routines. Using a physical planner fits into that mindset. It’s a simple habit that helps me stay focused on what’s important. Just like a walk on the beach or a quiet morning at home, a planner supports slow living in a very practical way. It helps bring clarity to busy days, reduces screen time, and makes everyday life feel more intentional and manageable.

Prepare a go bag for unexpected evacuations during a natural disaster or emergency. Table of Contents: When disaster strikes, there is often very little time to gather your belongings and flee. Seeing the recent devastating fires in California and the recent hurricanes in the south, and hearing countless stories of people forced to evacuate without their belongings has been a sobering reminder. Many regret not grabbing certain items before fleeing, only to realize those items are now gone forever, making me realize just how important it is to have a go bag, especially since I still haven’t put one together myself. So today I’m packing go bags for my family, including my dog, and am sharing a list of everything that’s going into my go bags so you can make yours, too. What Is a Go Bag? A go bag is a pre-packed emergency bag that contains essential items you might need if you have to leave your home quickly due to a natural disaster or other emergency. It ensures you have necessities like important documents, basic supplies, and personal essentials ready to grab at a moment’s notice. You can also include sentimental or irreplaceable items, giving you peace of mind that the things that matter most won’t be left behind. Having a go bag ready is crucial for safety and preparedness because emergencies often leave little to no time for gathering belongings. When every second counts, having your essentials packed and accessible can make a huge difference in reducing stress and ensuring you have what you need to get through a difficult situation. A durable, lightweight backpack or duffel bag with multiple compartments makes a great go bag, allowing you to carry essentials comfortably and keep them organized. Why You Need a Go Bag Reasons Why Someone Might Need to Evacuate Their Home Unexpectedly Natural disasters like hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes, and floods can strike with little warning, forcing people to evacuate on short notice. Even with advanced warnings, conditions can change rapidly, making it essential to be prepared ahead of time. When moving into a beach house in a flood zone, I had to consider the reality that at some point we would probably have to evacuate. The most likely reason would be for storm surge caused by a hurricane, but it doesn’t take just a hurricane to cause a flood. Other causes of a possible flood evacuation could be a tropical storm, a heavy rainstorm that hits during high tide, or a nor’easter, to name a few. There could even be a fire that causes evacuation; maybe a neighbors house has caught on fire and you need to evacuate because it’s at risk of spreading to your home. This scenario could happen any day, any time. Wildfires, although not super common on the east coast, can happen, and we do sometimes get fire warnings on dry, windy days. This is why it’s a good idea to have a go bag ready for each member of your family, including pets. Use this guide to pack a disaster go bag for everyone in your household so you’ll be prepared if you need to evacuate your home for any reason, no matter where you live. Related: How to Help Someone Whose House Flooded Go Bag Essentials List: What to pack in a go bag for an emergency evacuation You should have these items packed in your go bag, or a list of them in your go bag and where they’re located in your home so you can grab them quickly. This is helpful because it might be hard to remember everything when you’re feeling panicked and short on time. What you pack may depend on whether you’re evacuating by car or on foot. What to pack in a go bag Additional items for babies & kids What to pack in a go bag for pets Related: America’s Coastal States: Populations, Shorelines, and Rising Seas Infographic Storing and Maintaining Your Go Bag Emergencies are unpredictable, but being prepared gives you control over how you handle them. Go bags are a simple yet essential step in ensuring safety and peace of mind for you and your family, allowing you to respond quickly during a disaster. There’s no better time to start than now. Take a few minutes to gather your essentials and begin assembling your go bag today. Protecting yourself and your loved ones starts with being ready for unexpected floods, fires, and intensifying hurricanes. Preparedness isn’t just about survival, it’s about having the confidence to act quickly and wisely in an emergency. Being ready means you can focus on staying safe, protecting your loved ones, and handling any situation with resilience.

Use this easy kitchen decluttering list to simplify your space. If you’re looking at this list, that probably means you’re not happy with your kitchen clutter in one way or another. The good news is that you can easily declutter your kitchen right now! The kitchen is one of the most-used rooms of your home, so you should love being in your kitchen, not feel weighed down by excess clutter everywhere. Having a kitchen free from clutter makes cooking more enjoyable, your days less stressful, and gives you a space that’s easier to maintain. This means you’ll spend less time cleaning and more time doing the things you truly enjoy. Decluttering can often feel overwhelming, especially when you’re unsure about what to keep and what to toss. This indecision can easily stall your progress. To help you get started, I’ve put together a list of 10 items you can declutter from your kitchen right away. These are things you likely won’t feel indecisive about, making the decision process quick and straightforward. By focusing on these easy-to-remove items, you’ll find it simpler to take those initial steps towards a more organized kitchen. It’s important to do a quick kitchen decluttering each year in order to make sure you only have items in your home that serve a purpose for you and your family. There’s no reason to keep expired, unusable, or unnecessary items in your kitchen. These things only take up valuable space and can make future tasks, like moving, renovating, or tackling a bigger organization project, much more challenging and overwhelming. Clearing out these items now will save you time and stress in the long run, creating a more functional and efficient kitchen. You should be able to move through this list relatively quickly. Decluttering your kitchen is typically a quicker process because it doesn’t usually involve many sentimental items that cause you to pause and reflect. Unlike cleaning out your bedroom closet, kitchen decluttering can be done swiftly and efficiently. If you do happen to feel yourself getting stuck on certain items, it’s okay to pause and skip ahead to the next thing. It’s better to declutter as much as you can in the time that you have than to get stuck on a category and not make much progress overall. With that in mind, here are some kitchen items you can easily declutter to streamline your space. Table of Contents: 10 Things to Easily Declutter From Your Kitchen Below are some specific kitchen items you can quickly clear out to make your space more efficient. Use your best judgement as to what you can donate and what should be thrown in the garbage. 1. Plates and bowls you never use Do you have extras that are gathering dust in your cabinets? If you never use these items anymore, there’s no reason to hold onto them. You can likely donate these items so they can be given a new life. 2. Expired food in your pantry You’re most likely not going to eat expired food, so don’t let it take up valuable pantry space. Use this opportunity to throw out old condiments from takeout restaurants, as well. If you come across any shelf-stable food items that haven’t yet expired but you no longer plan to eat, set them aside for donation. You can usually find food donation bins in grocery stores, churches, or schools, or ask around if anyone knows of a place accepting these donations. 3. Medication, vitamins, and supplements that are expired or you no longer take Not only are these items taking up space, but they’re potentially a hazard if someone were to take them by mistake, or if they were to get in the hands of children or pets. You can dispose of unused pills at a drug take-back program at most local pharmacies, where there may even be a drop box available for these items. If you don’t have a local take-back program you can pour the pills out into a plastic bag that’s also filled with something gross, like kitty litter or coffee grounds, and throw them in the garbage. You shouldn’t flush pills. 4. Food storage containers that don’t have a match or are old and gross It’s frustrating when you’re trying to put away leftovers or pack your lunch for work and you can’t find a matching set. You also probably don’t want to take an old stained container to work. It’s time to get rid of these items so you’re only reaching for matching sets that you want to use. 5. Mugs and reusable water bottles that you don’t use anymore Everyone ends up with more mugs and water bottles than they need at some point. We tend to develop “favorites” and stop reaching for the others. If you have mugs or water bottles that you no longer use, now is a good time to clear them out. You can check with your local donation center to see if they’re currently accepting these items. Related: 2 Easy Ways to Tidy Your Home When You’re Feeling Overwhelmed or Unmotivated 6. Old mail, coupons, takeout menus and other papers that have been sitting around too long Paper clutter can take over your home if you don’t keep it under control. Recycle anything that you no longer need, like expired coupons, old flyers, and takeout menus that you can read online instead. 7. Cleaning supplies that you don’t like or use If you tried a new cleaning product that just isn’t for you, or you’ve switched over to natural cleaners and still have others under your sink that you don’t want to use, now is a good time to get rid of them. Check your local waste management website for disposal instructions. 8. Pens that don’t work There’s nothing worse than reaching for a pen only to discover that it doesn’t work. Give your kitchen collection of writing utensils a quick test and toss the ones that have dried up. 9. Items […]

Simple motivational methods to help you get your home back in order. Most people have let their house get a little messy or unorganized at one time or another. What usually starts as minor disorganization can snowball into a larger problem, and it’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you look around at it all. That’s why knowing these two easy ways to tidy any space in your home will help you get back on track. Maybe you strayed from your usual routine while working overtime at your job, while you or a family member were sick, during a time you were feeling depressed, or any other number of reasons. Now you’re wanting to get the clutter and chaos under control, but whenever you look around the room you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, frustrated, or unmotivated. Where do you begin? Here are two easy ways to start your path back to a clean home when you’re feeling overwhelmed with the task. Cleaning Method #1: The Timer Method Set a timer for an amount of time you know you can devote to tidying your home. Try to do as much as possible during that time without getting distracted by something unrelated to your cleaning goals (no picking up your phone to scroll social media!). Whether you set your timer for 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or an hour, make sure it’s an attainable amount of cleaning time for you. If it makes more sense for you to set shorter amounts of time so you can take short breaks, then do that, because when the timer goes off you want to feel good about what you’ve accomplished. Maybe you have a ton of laundry to fold so you want to motivate yourself to fold it in a 20 minute uninterrupted stretch before taking a 5 minute phone break. Or you want to devote 30 uninterrupted minutes to unloading the dishwasher and tackling your sink full of dishes. The timer method is great for motivation for these types of tasks, but can also be used for any kind of tidying or cleaning. Besides using the timer method for a specific task like laundry or dishes, it also works great for the general tidying up of a room, like cleaning up your living room. See how many items can get put away in a designated amount of time — you’ll be pleasantly surprised at what you can accomplish in an uninterrupted time block! Another way to use this method is when you have food in the oven or microwave and are waiting for the timer to go off — see how much you can get done in that time. Even if you’re heating up something in the microwave for only 3 minutes, you’ll be surprised how many items you can tidy from your kitchen countertops during that time. Cleaning Method #2: The Number Method Pick any number, whether it’s 10 or 40. Then you put away that number of items as fast as you can. If there’s an item that requires longer attention you can choose to skip it and come back to it later. You’re looking for items that are out of place that you can easily put away. For example, you can walk through your room and quickly find a jacket that needs to be hung up, a bottle of nail polish that belongs in your bathroom cabinet, a pair of scissors that can be returned to your kitchen drawer, and so on. You can’t stop to get distracted by your phone or the TV until you reach your number goal. Once you’ve hit your goal you can take a short break if necessary, otherwise pick another number and start again. Before you know it, your room will be looking less cluttered. If you come across numerous small items that are together and are going to the same place, you can choose to count them as one item even though they’re technically multiple items. For example, if you have 8 markers on the table and they’re all going into the same marker bin, you can count it as “one” item from your list. Otherwise it can be too easy to reach your goal by putting away only a few things. To make it more exciting, put on some music! Just because you’re cleaning doesn’t mean you can’t have fun, too. Related: These Are the Perfect Beach Color Palettes, and Here’s How You Can Use Them There Are Many Ways to Tidy Your Home If you don’t struggle with the motivation to clean your house then these easy ways to tidy your home may not be necessary for you. But if you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or frozen by the disorder in your home, give these methods a try and see if they help you to get things heading in the right direction. There are many ways to tidy your home, and these are just two of them. Hopefully using these methods will help you feel motivated to get your house in order. Once you’ve tackled some of your clutter and are feeling less overwhelmed, you may find that other ways to tidy your home suddenly feel easier. Before you know it, your house will feel clean and comfortable again! Once your house is clean, you can still use these two ways to tidy your home to stay on top of things.
